The Unarchiver is a great open source file decompressor. It just happens and you can get to the important part: the file it just decompressed. Just like Stuffit Expander, The Unarchiver makes decompression something you don’t even have to think about. Very! If you are downloading different types of files than those Stuffit Expander can handle, you will appreciate what The Unarchiver can do for you.

There really aren’t any other features available for this software, besides its limited preferences which includes where the file should be put when it is decompressed and if the archive should be put in the trash or not. The file formats The Unarchiver can open includes:Īs long as you have The Unarchiver set up to open these files, it will do so automatically when one is downloaded onto your Mac. The Unarchiver opens a large list of selected file formats that StuffIt Expander doesn’t handle. Then sit back and watch The Unarchiver work its magic.

Then set it as your primary program to open files in your web browser’s preferences (or wait until you download a file and select it). After downloading the file and moving it to the Applications folder, all you have to do to set it up is open The Unarchiver’s preferences and select all the types of files you want it to open on your Mac.

I initially downloaded it over a year ago to decompress a RAR file that Stuffit Expander didn’t recognize. It is small, and I always forget it’s even on my Mac. The Unarchiver calls itself: “a much more capable replacement for ‘BOMArchiveHelper.app,’ " and I agree. Oh, and it’s free and open source! Download and Installation (5 out of 5) Along with StuffIt Expander, The Unarchiver does everything you need it to do without asking.

If you're using emulation then just use cracked ADFs or use IPF/SPS images which are 100% copies of original disks with copy protection still kept intact. I presume you are using real hardware so those are your only real options. You'll either need to use a decent software copier (X-Copy) with a hardware dongle such as the Cyclone dongle, or just use cracked ADFs (such as the ones available on planetemu) and write them back to disc. It doesn't matter if it's NDOS or DOS, if it doesn't have copy protection you should be able to copy it with any standard copy program such as X-Copy.īeing NDOS doesn't necessarily mean it has copy protection, it just means it uses a different filesystem to standard Amiga-DOS so workbench won't be able to see the files on the disk.īoth ADF and DMS store exactly the same information, DMS is simply a compressed version of an ADF, and both formats cannot hold any copy protection information so will fail if the original disk is copy protected. The problem you are having is you can't get around the copy protection on the disks.
